The story of the game shares similarities to the story of the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, aside from a few exceptions:

He seeks help from Niccolò Machiavelli and the Thieves' Guild of Rome they ask him to free Claudio, a member of the Thieves' Guild, from the Followers of Romulus.
